If I am blessed with two boons education and career in an English-speaking country or education and career in non-English speaking country, I would perfectly choose an English-speaking country for two reasons. I am extremely confident about my language proficiency. Second a known devil is better than unknown angel😊

Now let us get to know about a few interesting facts about one such country. And the country is Ireland. It’s the only English-speaking country in Europe Union (EU). The financial and technological growth it has gone though in the past decade is nearly 40%. Here are some interesting facts about Ireland.

1. The Harp:

When looking into distinct features about a country, one of the first thing that comes to our mind is the national symbol. Ireland is the only country which has a musical instrument as its national symbol which is the Harp.

2. No Postal Code:

Until recently Ireland was the only country with no postal code. In the year 2014 EIR code was introduced. Till then it was the House number, street, Town/City and Country name. But letters reached safely! Even now the EIR code is optional.

3. St. Patrick’s Day:

As you know we celebrate the heroes from our own country. But, in Ireland a person born in Great Britain named St. Patrick who was in captivity as a slave for six years in Ireland returned back to Great Britain and became a priest. When he came back again to Ireland as a missionary and had contributions are commendable. To commemorate his contributions to Ireland the day of his death is celebrated as St Patrick’s day. To add more to this, children born on this date are considered very lucky.

4. High GDP:

One important aspect to look into either for education or for career is the country’s GDP. The current GDP of Ireland is $384.94 Billion and ranks 4th in GDP per capita in the world. The main reason for the high Irish GDP growth rates is because the low corporation tax rates that attracts a number of multinational corporations.

5. Ireland Partitioned:

Yes, you read it right. Ireland is divided between Republic of Ireland (officially named as Ireland) which covers almost 5/6th of the whole island. It has Dublin as its capital city.  Coming to the next 1/6th which is Northern Ireland that is a part of the UK. All political power is held with the UK. One other interesting fact is due to Brexit, Republic of Ireland is still with European union, but Northern Ireland is not in the European Union.

6. Irish Community Worldwide:

There was an Irish famine in the 1840 which led to a decline in population of nearly 2 million people because of emigration and starvation. But now due to the extreme growth since 1996 the population has been continuously raising by 50%.
